Snow Poppy

I had a relatively restful morning baking some Blueberry and Lemon Cupcakes, and investigating the garden. The botanical highlight was finding a bloom on this newly acquired Snow Poppy Eomecon choinantha. It's apparently a vigorous, spreading perennial with heart- or kidney-shaped, greyish green leaves to 10cm across. Upright, branching stems bear loose sprays of shiny, white, poppy-like flowers up to 5cm across from late spring to mid-summer. We may regret planting it, but it's in the wilder part of the garden so can battle it out with several other semi-invasive species! The entomological highlight was a brand new Green-veined White.

After lunch Alex and I led a walk round Thorpe Wood NR. The sun shone, the Bluebells were at their best and everyone seemed to have a really good time - and enjoyed the cakes at the end of the walk! A young couple even offered to help Alex with some site management, so a good session all round.
