Michael Clark in Dundee

It’s always a joy to visit the V& A in Dundee. Today it was the Michael Clark dance exhibition from the Barbican.

This son of an Aberdonian farmer radicalised the elite world of classical dance with his ground-breaking choreography combining classical and punk music.

Its an immersive experience i.e. deafening. (I had been waned so it was not such a shock).

Another warning came at the point of entry that these films showed heroin abuse, self-harm, suicide, and pornography. Was I shocked? No, there was so much going on that it was difficult to make out who was doing what and to whom.

There were no concessions for older people (perhaps they reckoned we would not want to see it which is not true) because they wanted to make it free for young people. Fair enough.

For anyone interested in dance it’s certainly worth the trek to Dundee to see because Michael Clark high energy innovative approach has helped change British cultural history. It's on until September.
