WWU Orchestra Concert

Three nights in a row we’ve gone up to the university to music department concerts. Tonight my brother Steve and his lady Kai joined us for the orchestra’s concert. They are so good! We are all so impressed with the quality of the young musicians at Western. Gloria Cheng played with them in a performance of a new piece by John Williams. Yes. That John Williams. The official premier of the piece is happening in New York City in June. Meanwhile our local university orchestra got to do a pre-premier, the first time in the US. What an opportunity. It’s all due to Ryan Dudenbostel, the young head of the orchestra department at Western. He studied with Gloria at UCLA when he was working on his doctorate. That connection lead to her coming to Bellingham for a week to teach master classes and play in a solo recital and this orchestra concert. We are so lucky to live here.
