Snacking

Question: how much water is there in a large dog waterbowl? Well when you have accidentally stood on the edge of one , flipped it , drowned yourself and the entire utility you would be surprised. Quite a substantial amount!!!

With a morning of disasters with sooo many things going pear shaped it was going to be very therapeutic to get out for an hour. The car park to the Reserve is closed because of unsavoury goings on at night so parking on a busy A road was less than ideal. However my little tranquil haven inside had been visited by vandals and the bird feeders all pulled down and pinched. Why do a few spoil it for the many?

I knew what I was going to blip today as this bird is one of the 'specialities' of the RSPB Reserve and I knew also it wasn't on The List!

This little marsh tit is usually found in broadleaf woodland liking damp surroundings with plenty of dead and dying trees - also parks and gardens. Not ours though and I hadn't ever seen one to properly identify till this week. Although having subdued colouring it's a pretty little bird having a glossy black cap! Apparently when they find an abundant supply of food they tend to hoard or bury it for a rainy day . Well - he'll have used up a good proportion of his larder recently then!!! Interestingly the part of their brain which specialises in remembering things is large - bigger than a great tit's. There were 2 and they didn't hang around - just time to grab a quick snack so felt quite lucky to have seen them at all today.
