We discovered the butter dish was empty so had to manage with a hard block straight from the fridge. This is when my granny's butter-curler comes in useful.

My mum has memories of when it was bought (late 30s?) and of the wonder of drawing the perfect curls off the block. She says it even made wartime margarine look presentable!

My sister's and I have similar memories from our visits to my grandparents' Gallatown bungalow when curling the butter was the prized task - never a chore.

I was amazed on looking more closely at the photo today to see it has a patent registration.
