Eagle's Nest

Nest III is a sculpture by Richard Moffatt, located on Dairy Farmers Hill in the National Arboretum in Canberra. The work is made from welded steel found objects, such as abandoned farm machinery. The sculpture of an eagle sitting upon a nest is mounted on boulders representing a rocky outcrop (more here).

I spent some time at the Arboretum today. It has been created over the last 20 years, after bushfires in 2001 and 2003 destroyed a pine plantation on the edge of central Canberra. A national competition was held for a design and planting started in 2005 (Wikipedia). It is developing nicely and is very popular with Canberrans.
