Bluebell Walk

One of the recommended local places to see bluebells is Beeslack Wood, in Penicuik, our destination today. For some odd reason, until Miss Flum discovered it, we had not known there was access to the public.

Bluebells there were, on this south-facing slope, those on the opposite bank were not yet fully open. I apologise for the poor colour, that's the TZ10's limitation.

We followed the path starting at Aaron House, (which is down the same lane as Beeslack High School) and meandered down the Loon Burn to its confluence with the North Esk, followed the track of the old railway a short way, turned round and up towards the housing to the south of the wood - this last we will not repeat, being strewn with dog poo bags and unbagged - to the main road then back down to Aaron House.

Apart from bluebells we saw a variety of wild flowers (see extra - clockwise from Top Left: wood sorrel, lungwort, pink purslane, primrose, wood anemone, yellow archangel, arum lily just opening, ramsons).

Above our heads birdsong including chiff chaff, possible willow warbler besides the regulars, also a woodpecker drumming. Squirrels might interest Trixie, should Ann take her there.

The undulating ground provided a good workout and by the time we returned the drizzly light had changed to sunshine.

My entry to the flower Friday challenge, thanks to BikerBear for hosting.
