Polling Day

Our polling station has changed from a primary school at the top of the Buckstone estate to the back of a restaurant on the main road so we walked up there after lunch to cast our votes from a bewildering list of candidates.

This evening we had difficulty getting into church for choir practice and even more trouble leaving as a mob of protesters, who had been in place at least two hours already, blocked the road. I understand that a Home Office Van had been surrounded to prevent the deportation of refugees* - whence I do not know, but it caused much anguish. The police cordon parted to allow our exit from the premises in convoy to make our way home.
*Edit: News reporters state immigrants, not refugees, as the church caretaker had informed us, which does put a slightly different angle on the argument.
