Star Trek 11

Movie Reference 21/31

It might seem an obscure movie reference, but it's the movie we were about to go and see. And thankfully it lived up to the hype (the last movie we saw in the big comfy sets of the Dominion in the background in this shot was Indy 4 which was truly awful). Star Trek fanboy Steven and his lovely fiancée Eliza were accompanying me (Mel's attendance was aborted after a quick trip to a nearby bike store, a long standing problem with her back flaring up, meaning a dash home to drop her back off). Steven being the big Trekkie (and all-round film nut), and always willing to be a blip subject, the shot only seemed right (and they're not leaning on some random car, it's the first time he'd seen my new motor and wanted to include it in the shot!).

The movie itself hit a nice balance (save for one absolutely dreadful piece of product placement near the start) with some good action, great (but not dominating) effects, and a good sprinkling of humour (including a Fat Kirk Hands moment which could have leapt into farce, but managed to just about stay on the right side of the line).

All of which means once Mel's back has recovered enough for two odd hours in cinema seats I'll be going to see it again. And I was always more of a Star Wars boy.

Loads of family stuff still going on in the background and keeping life more stressed than it needs to be. But tomorrow morning (weather permitting) I'll be up early for a bike ride to blow out some cobwebs, which always helps with stress levels, and then just see what the day holds.
