Cuckoo #57

Hubby and I had a mini blipmeet with kwchas this morning at Bickerton Hill so we could search for the cuckoo that he and kwdiane had seen last week. The first part of the walk through the woodland yielded very few bird sightings, not even a robin. We could hear quite a lot of twittering, but just couldn't locate the owners. After hearing from two separate sets of dog walkers going the other way, that they had heard the cuckoo that morning, we carried on to the top of the hill with confidence. And sure enough, we could hear the familiar sound of the cuckoo, but it was quite distant. We spent some time trying to find and then photograph the willow warblers and then all of a sudden the cuckoo appeared from nowhere and sat atop this tree, giving us a really nice view  for a minute or two before it decided that it was too windy and flew away.

I am sure Chas was very relieved that not only did we get to hear the cuckoo, but that we got to see it too. And we were both very surprised and delighted that it came close enough for a photograph.

Afterwards we went to a nearby pub for a bit of lunch and a chat.
Thanks for a very successful cuckoo hunt Chas and we look forward to the next blipmeet.

You just beat me to it with the blip and yes, they are pretty much identical. I will spare our common followers the extra willow warbler as I am only counting main blips, so hope to get another shot later in the year.
