Quod oculus meus videt

Hadrian's Arch, Shugborough

Such a great day to use an infrared camera, we started by visiting Meg, L's ride to give her some fuss and grooming, mucking out the stables and poo picking while we were there.  Sadly her being ridden days are probably behind her but L has such a bond with her that even spending a little bit of time with her is worthwhile.

Afterwards we headed to Milford for lunch and then a walk down the drive to Shugborough Hall.  The skies were magnificent and the parkland looked in fine order, save for some trees that had succumbed to the recent windy weather.

It was constructed in 1765 and is a copy of Hadrian's Arch in Athens. It commemorates Admiral Anson. He is noted for his circumnavigation of the globe and his role in overseeing the Royal Navy during the Seven Years' War. Shugborough Hall is the home of the Anson family, Earls of Lichfield.
