The David Parr House

M, B and I took a trip to Cambridge today to visit an extraordinary house.
This Victorian terraced house with the white front door holds an incredible secret.  It's a time capsule, providing a glimpse into the world of arts & crafts decorative painter David Parr who bought the house in 1886. He spent many years of his life re-creating the patterns and motifs that the Arts & Craft Movement are best known for.  After he died his grand-daughter Elsie continued to live in the house until 2014, making very few changes to her grandfathers beautiful interior but adding her own personality to the house too. Tamsin Wimhurst found about the house in 2009 and developed a friendship with Elsie and after Elsie's death she was so keen for the house to be preserved that she purchased it.  Tamsin set up the charity who have spent many years repairing and conserving it and have now opened it to the public. I've added a link to the museum website below in case you wish to explore the wonderful interiors.

The house next door was also bought by the charity and is now a visitor centre where our friendly guide told us about the history of David Parr, Elsie and the house before we started our one and half-hour tour.

It was a real treat to be able to visit this fascinating and beautiful house.
