Limefield Falls

With only time for a short walk this afternoon, I headed off to do the Polbeth Circular route and to see Limefield Falls.

James Young built Limefield Falls along a stretch of Harwood Water which meandered through the gardens of Limefield House, where he lived. It was allegedly inspired by the Victoria Falls on the Zambizi River, Africa, an area where his friend David Livingston explored, albeit the Limefield Falls being built on a much smaller scale.

A local community project has seen recent improvements made here, including the viewing platform for the falls and the old lade used to create a fish ladder enabling fish to go up Harwood water.

There are pleasant walks to explore along trail paths and boardwalks where you can hear and, if like me, lucky to see the wildlife.
