Silverfish

This is one of the silverfish (Lepisma saccharinum) that I found in my kitchen yesterday.

Silverfish are primitive insects that evolved around 400 million years ago so it has been a successful and robust design.

Like the pseudoscorpions that I blipped yesterday, the silverfish is a cosmopolitan species found around the world.  Both species have found a favourable habitat in human homes. Neither of them carry diseases or are a threat to humans.
