Hidden Depths

Dead stalks from last years wild flowers remain uncut, the ground too wet this spring. New growth already showing green leaf, here and there pockets of early flowers already making their mark. Sunshine casting rays down into the hidden depths picks out their colour in deep shadow.

Instead of seeing them a distraction, I purposefully tried to play off the bright yellows of the dead stalks, out of focus, against the flower. Doing so creates a distortion as to which is in front of the other and where the eye should rest. I like the mystery of deep shadow.

Extra: Breezy Day.
