One street, our street #8 - Traveller's Rest Inn

In 1848 the Traveller's Rest Inn was built at the top of the hill on the road leading into Belair from the town of Adelaide. It was built by an early German settler by the name of Gottfried Koll. According to my research, this is the oldest building in Belair.

Older looking!

Mr Koll was also the licensee of this very tiny Inn between 1856 and 1862 after which the Inn closed. The Inn is now a heritage protected building, held in private hands, and backs onto our street. Hence the inclusion in the One Street, Our Street blip series.

As you can see it has been well preserved and carefully restored by the present owners. I was returning their lost dog today so that gave me the opportunity to go onto the property to take this interesting photo. Otherwise the building is partly obscured by the new fence and electric gates which I blipped back on March 25th. You will recall that lovely old red brick driveway.
