From Jonah To Communion

Since we were observing the ordinance of the Lord's Supper (or Communion, if you prefer that) I had thought that perhaps we would have a break from Jonah, but I was wrong!  After we lifted our voices in praise and worship, the choir, orchestra and various accompanists blessed the congregation with an inspiring anthem, "King of Kings".  Then, Pastor Wes took us to Chapter 3 of the book of Jonah, where we found that, once again, God told Jonah to go to that most wicked city of Nineveh and tell them that God said they either need to repent of their wickedness or they will receive the just punishment for the evil things they were doing.  And, this time, Jonah does go, but he is probably not expecting the response he got (as we will see in Chapter 4 next week)  Those terrible people did repent and God did not send the destruction  He had promised because of that repentance.  God was pleased with their genuine repentance.  The Bible tells us that God is not willing that any should perish, but He gives us the choice to accept the way He has prepared for us through the sacrificial death of Jesus or not.  As Christ-followers, we remember and honor the propitiation that Jesus made for our sin when he accepted that cup filled with the just and righteous wrath of God against sin and drank every last drop of the judgement we deserved so that we could spend eternity with our God who is holy.  We do this by observing the Lord's Supper in remembrance of what Jesus did for us.  It is our mission to go spread this good news to all people, regardless of their response.  Pastor Wes has much more to say about all this in the Live-stream.  Perhaps, if you watch it, you will think of someone who needs to hear what you can tell them.....
