Raglan House and Holy Trinity Church, Malvern

Blipmeet - Great Malvern, Worcestershire - next Tuesday 24th May 2022 - please spread the word!

Today P2P project team member Hazel visited some more places in Malvern that are associated with Lorna Lloyd. The main blip is of Raglan House in Somers Road. Here Lorna died aged 28 in 1942.

We know from the current owner of the house that Lorna's father Bertie bought it in April 1939 for £725. This was two years after his brother-in-law the Reverend Percy Moss Weston (Lorna's Uncle Percy W) and his family moved into Link Tower Lodge next door. As extras we have included the street sign, and the house name from the left and right side of the gate to the drive.

Holy Trinity church (also in the extras) is not far from Somers Road. This is the church where Lorna's Uncle Percy W officiated. We believe that Lorna and the rest of the family worshipped here.

When Haile Selassie I spent time in Malvern during his exile between 1936 and 1941, he also attended services at Holy Trinity church. Such was his friendship with Uncle Percy W that he and his grand-daughters, who were at school in Malvern, would come round for tea. Although we have no hard evidence of this, it's likely that Lorna may well have also met the Emperor of Ethiopia around this time.
