A funny sort of day

We couldn’t make our minds up where to go today because rain was forecast (and I don’t want to shrink any more).  Maps were laid out on the table, and then Caitlin turned up with a very rough drawing showing where to find red squirrels, which we’ll leave for later in the week (possibly).

There is a yawning chasm between what we want to do, and what we’ll be able to do, but as rain was forecast we decided to head for Cragside, near Rothbury, except it isn’t.  Oh yes it is, I hear you say, but you haven’t taken into account the road closure between the two places.  Anyway we did Rothbury (pretty, but………..) and then retraced our steps back towards Anwick, ignored the road closed sign and got to Cragside in time for lunch.  Heaving doesn’t do it justice.  Where did all those people come from?

We saw hundred upon hundred of pine trees down as the result of storm Arwen and ones that followed both at Cragside and along the route.  Lots down close to where we’re staying too.

Anyway, here you have a view of Cragside House through the foliage and a couple of Greylag geese, one of which is doing a fair imitation of a cormorant,
