Lorna (and a teeny tiny Hazel)

Not the best photo of our day but I wanted to use it because it is the reason for us being in Malvern.

We found a car park not far from the Priory. We had plenty time in the museum first though sadly the person on the desk had no idea where I could see the list of hilarious illnesses the waters could cure. Mr C had a look at the room devoted to the radar and communications research. In the early 80s he had the task of looking over the old equipment which was no longer in use, to see if they could use it elsewhere. It was even older than what they already had so not taken.

At the Priory we were lucky enough to get a chance to meet Hazel on our way in. She had red ribbons for family and blue for Blippers. I met 2 others. The event was so interesting. I enjoyed the historian who talked about Lorna’s life in Malvern during the war. Then Lorna’s great great niece read from the diary and some of her sometimes moving, sometimes funny poems. Even Mr C, who had no idea what he was coming to, enjoyed it. I’ll be interested to listen to the podcasts which sound fascinating.

Unfortunately we weren’t able to find Hazel at the end to congratulate her - there were a lot of people with her and they were starting the second session quite soon - but also Mr C was anxious about the van and whether we were within the permitted lines in the car park.

We decided as it was such a sunny nice afternoon we’d drive up the road to a car park to get a walk up to Worcestershire Beacon, a commemoration of Victoria’s 60 years on the throne. It was almost 1000ft of ascent in half a mile but what amazing views. 360 degrees for miles and miles. We met a nice young Asian Brummy couple who offered to take our photo - the lad got so into it that he had us posing in all direction and the young woman flapped her headscarf and gave advice on how I should stand to get my best side. He took some on portrait mode but she reminded him we wanted the view so that would be out of focus if he did that. Back at the car park she got into the driving seat. Yay!

It’s been such a happy day. The wonderful tribute to Lorna, meeting Hazel, and the walk not to mention the young couple, our hope for the future. Oh and #2 had a meeting at school about James. They said they were concerned because he is keen to learn and his reading and writing are nowhere near in line with his abilities in other areas such as verbal reasoning and maths. His behaviour is no longer a concern so she is reassured.
