The Battle Stone

The Battle Stone in Mortlach
Kirkyard is a Class 11 symbol stone - this indicates that it has Christian symbols on one side and Pictish carvings on the other. It dates from the 8th or 9th century and was found in the field below the kirkyard.

This green slate monolith
has a Christian cross accompanied by rather vague carvings of a pair of fish like monsters and a lion like animal on one side. The other side of the stone has a bird above a serpent and bulls head below these is a horseman and hound. (Extra)All the carvings are difficult to decipher
