Art Exhibition

We visited the RSASA Art Exhibition today. It was a selection from the Royal South Australian Society of Arts Collections. Specially prepared for our History Festival 2022 in May.

This is a portrait by Grigg of James Ashton, painted in Adelaide in 1922, oil on canvas. It was donated to the Society by the artist in 1946. It won the Melrose Prize in 1922.

Ashton was born on the Isle of Man, and was president of the South Australian Society of Arts for four years and a founding member and longtime president of the Adelaide Easel Club.
