Stuff and Nonsense

Willow Warbler #65

This morning we went for a quick blipmeet with kwchas, kwdiane, John39 and Villan at West Kirby. It was nice to meet everyone, but with the strong winds and less than favourable forecast, we decided to give the walk to Hilbre Island a miss this time. I'm such a wimp when it comes to being out in less than perfect weather, so I don't think it came as a great surprise to kwchas especially.
After waving the rest of the group goodbye we headed to RSPB Burton Mere and spent the rest of the day there. There were no rarities to be seen today, but we enjoyed seeing plenty of chicks - avocets and black headed gulls, loads of goslings and ducklings and up at Burton Point, we watched a pair of great spotted woodpeckers feeding on the ground - presumably there are lots of ants in those humps. Unfortunately, as is most often the case, the Green Woodpecker was nowhere to be seen, but there were loads of house martins buzzing around up there (extra).
A thoroughly enjoyable day and great to meet some new people too :)
