School Pick Up

Following the “no words left to describe” incident at Uvalde Elementary School this week, the response of the Bedford police here in our grandkids’ school district was to put extra police presence around the schools. This was intended to reassure the kids and parents I suppose, but with only 2 days remaining of the school year, it was a weak response. No more gestures please! Action is needed! Outrage and horror that lasts a few days and then we get back to our normal lives isn’t enough. Honest soul searching needs to take place about how our nation has come to this! How have we allowed this to be such a common occurrence that we hardly blink an eye! I am sickened and ashamed!
We need to ask ourselves what part are we playing or not playing in this scenario? Do we identify with not only the grieving and bereft families but also with the shooter? Or do we turn away and say, “Thank goodness is wasn’t anyone I know!”
We must not stay silent because we don’t want to offend someone’s political point of view on “gun rights”. We must stand up and do what we can to end this tragedy! We must exercise our civil rights and not vote for another person who supports gun rights. That is just the minimum we can do!
