The bridge to nowhere.

Home once more after a lovely few day’s away at the caravan.
It has been so relaxing.
Life runs at a much slower pace there even in the towns like Thirsk, and Boroughbridge.
You don’t see many people on their mobile phones.
People like to stop and have a chat.

On the way home we detoured to buy asparagus from Spilmans farm in Helperby.
( Had some on Saturday night and it was delicious.)
Then to Myton - on- Swale and a walk down to the bridge.

Centuries ago this was an important crossing of the River Swale.Now the there is no road through, only a bridleway.
Previous bridges haves stood on this site for over 500 yrs. but all collapsed at some point.
This one was commissioned in 1868 by Lord of the Manor, Major Stapylton of Myton, to replace the ferry. The design was modelled on Westminster Bridge in London. It was restored in 2002.

The extra shows two magnificent carved eagles on the newly restored gate posts at Myton Hall. Home of the late Sir Ken Morrison.
