Jubilee beacon

No beacon planned in Wooler as far as we knew, so MrM and I decided to go out to see some of the others being lit locally to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

At the appointed hour, conditions were hardly ideal in this corner of the land - it was still light, quite misty, and peeing down with rain! We spotted a total of 5 beacons, and at one point could see two at the same time - this one at the top of Chatton Hill, and one on the hillside near Chillingham. The photo was taken from a considerable distance away; the beacon is actually at the top of a steep, rocky hillside - several cars had been left at the bottom, those that made it to the top all look to be 4-wheel drives. A good while later, on the way back, we passed  the brightest beacon of the five, near Hurlestone Tower (extra).

Cold and damp enough when we got home to put on the heating for an hour...
