Under the carpet . . .

That would be the old piece of carpet which covers the compost bin!

These are cellar slugs, which seem very much at home in here.  They are excellent beasties to have, in that they prefer dead matter to live plants!  Next to go in will be a dry layer of used bedding from the hen house. It works well, there is always plenty of compost to add to the beds and borders.

A busy morning of baking and cooking. Friends coming round this evening so a batch of sausage rolls, bits and pieces to pick at, coronation chicken salad and a peach and raspberry trifle - with Amaretto!
Also made a lemon drizzle tray bake and some chocolate buns for the Jubilee celebrations in the village hall tomorrow. It was a lovely morning. The sun was shining, the back door was open, I was listening to old Fortunately podcasts that I hadn't heard before and I was really enjoying myself.

A lovely evening eating outside too.
