St Monans

St Monans is a beautiful wee fishing village on the East Neuk Fife, with colourful and quaint houses scattered around overlooking the harbour and beyond.

As well as fishing, the area was known for its salt production industry, and the old saltpans can still be seen, along with the reconstructed stone windmill that was used to pump seawater up to them.
Near the windmill, you will find a tidal pool which the local community have been doing their best to keep clear, so if you enjoy a spot of wild swimming, this is a great place to try.

Along the Fife coastal path heading away from St Monans towards Ellie, you will find The Old Kirk, the village's parish which was restored in the 19th century. The route you take on this section of path, however, does depend on where the tide is, but you will soon get to see a beehive doocot further along as well as the remains of Newark Castle.

As with many of the villages along this stretch, I could happily stay for hours admiring the views and exploring the beaches.
