Bar Harbor, Maine

Today we are visiting Bar Harbor, Maine in glorious sunny weather for a nice change!

We took an interesting architectural/history walking tour through the center of town with a very good and engaging guide, and learned about how Bar Harbor became THE place to be in the summer for wealthy families like the Rockefellers, Astors, Vanderbilts, and Whitneys.  We also heard all about the devastating forest fires of 1947 which turned thousands of acres of land surrounding Bar Harbor to ash.

This collage shows the view of our ship as we sped away in a tender bound for shore, a beautiful stained glass window in the Episcopal church depicting a fisherman, some classic kitschy lobster claws downtown, and the inevitable Maine rooftop moose!

Wishing our youngest son Evan a very Happy 38th Birthday today!
