Robin

This is the American Robin sitting in my choke cherry tree. There are so many branches that it's difficult to get a good picture of any bird that stops. The robin is named after the European Robin because of its orange breast. Typically the robin is one of our first signs of spring. (Although, they've been back for about 6 weeks, they've had to endure the cold, winter weather.) I'm not sure how our odd weather has impacted their food source and nest building ability, as they are one of the earliest bird species to lay eggs. The robin is also among the first birds to sing at dawn. They sound cheerful and sing as if they know the score.
