THIRTEEN-LINED GROUND SQUIRREL a.k.a. Gopher

This little bugger (Ictidomys tridecimlineatus) is a common rodent in Wisconsin. Locals call them gophers: some even call them chipmunks.....totally wrong.. They are found in large colonies much like prairie dogs although they are much smaller.

This one lives at Road America and presses his luck for living by crossing race traffic to get food and living beneath the Jersey Barriers that separate humans from the race action.

He's also at the top of the menu for the many hawks and owls that hunt on Road Americas grounds. Foxzes as well.

Best in Large.
