Day #10 of #30dayswild - one of the tumbling flower beetles, Variimorda villosa found at Castor Hanglands NNR. They are sometimes known as pintail beetles, because of the elongated and pointed abdominal tip which aids them with tumbling movements to escape predators. This local species is mainly confined to the southern half of England, and Peterborough is at the northern edge of its range (at least for now).
