Of Course, It's Not Like That Anymore

On This Day In History
1381: Peasants' army marches into London

Quote Of The Day
"Rustics you were and rustics you are still; you will remain in bondage not as before but incomparably harsher. For as long as we live and, by God's grace, rule over the realm, we will strive with mind, strength and goods to supress you so that the rigour of your servitude will be an example to posterity."
(King Richard II)

In 1383 the "rustics" were complaining about the poll tax, foreigners, the escalating crime rate, food price increases and how the spirit of the working class had been flattened by the killing of the leader of the peasant revolt, Wat Tyler.

Fast forward to 1983 and what are the "rustics" complaining about? See the extra. Poor Hob Gadling, granted eternal life by Dream in that same tavern in 1383, must be wondering Where's The Revolution?

Of course, at least today when there are millions at the gate in London nobody is killed; we are just given Paddington Bear and Queen and we respond with thunderous applause. You mark my words, the end of the world is coming.
