Live it loud!

Hanging around!

An early Blip today. After the amazing Rolling Stones last week, we are off out to see one of our teenage year favourites - Elvis Costello.

These are the flowers in one of the wall baskets on the patio. Unusually for me, straight out the camera, no adjustments, no tweaking, no artistic interpretation or cleansing, no cropping. Just raw lovely colours!

Update The expedition into Macro Ring Flash photography hasn't gone well and is now terminated, at least for the moment.

The replacement for the unit that wasn't working arrived Friday so did more testing. Again, it failed exactly the same way. Indeed, I discovered the flash worked properly with subject distances above 1m but not at 1m or below. For a macro dedicated flash that is of no use whatsoever.
So, Saturday I emailed the manufacturer's UK office.

They replied this morning saying the flash isn't compatible "because the R5  is too new". I've had the camera two and a half years already. That is a generation in camera terms, not new. Their website says nothing about compatibility or otherwise with the R5 or any Canon mirrorless camera.

They also said that Canon hadn't tested the combination!  I pointed out that it was actually their responsibility to either test their own products and report its status when they themselves claim generic cross range compatibility with no statement regarding mirrorless. It seems their product hasn't caught up with the recent mass migration away from DSLRs. No response yet.

I pointed out also that the retailer is standing all the costs of this failure, not them.

Talked to Wex this morning to arrange a second return and reimbursement and the problem with the manufacturer and this item is being passed back to their product manager to have warnings added to their own website regarding the problem and for further discussions with the vendor. Wex I have to say, have been fantastic.

Further, the manufacturer has a better spec'd product in their line at 2.5x the price. A further failure in their customer service. If they had pointed that out themselves this morning and especially if offered a discount, I might just have bought it. But not now.

Not amused.

Moral of the story - Kenro and Nissin products : my suggestion based upon experience -> Avoid!
Potentially poor products and zero customer service.
