Kula bata

Eat duck.

I learnt today the phrase kula bata, which literally translated means ‘eat duck’. My Swahili teacher Yusuf was giggling as he explained it’s a phrase used for ‘having fun’ or ‘relaxing’. I am supposed to weave it into speech although I still don’t know most of the basic words I need to converse. Colloquialisms may have to wait.

‘Are Tory MPs fundamentally stupid?, asked my mother after Boris Johnson survived the no confidence vote. ‘Yes mam, but more than that they’re self-serving muppets propped up by an electorate that simply can’t be paying enough attention.’
