Addictive personality?

Well, recent research seems to indicate there is a link between variants of the Dopamine D2 receptor gene DRD2...

It seems to be linked to smoking, obesity, alcoholism, drug dependency, and other disorders under the umbrella of impulsive-addictive-compulsive disorders.

Apparently you don't get addicted to a substance or a behaviour because you like it too much. It seems it is the opposite, that you don't enjoy it enough and therefore you need more of it to get the same "fix" as a person not affected by the disorder.

But isn't it a bit too easy to blame our genetics for our actions? Have we moved on to some sort of genetic pre-determinism?

Even if it can be proved that genetics play a part on our personality and our behaviour, environmental factors also play as big a part. And our own free will.

If anyone is interested, all my genome project blips are tagged together!
