Chirk Castle

Today marked another revolution around the sun for me (as one blipper put it). We left Penny at Chirk Marina, packed the car and headed up to the Teddy Bears Cafe in Chirk for a humungous breakfast.

Next on the agenda was a quick gallop around the grounds of Chirk Castle which was rather splendid and will repay a further visit.

Packing more in we drove back to Llangollen for a ride on the Llangollen heritage railway. No steam on today but we were treated to this rather fine Class 47/4 diesel to haul the train along the Dee Valley to Carrog and back. It’s a lovely ride and soon to be extended to Corwen.

Llangollen was busy and very pleasant with gentle walks alongside the Dee in the sun between sharp showers. Our last destination was Shrewsbury for an early meal at the Armoury pub ready to set off back to Kent. We’re in the road now and expect to get back around 11.00pm.
