Scattered Polaroids

We had another beach day, quite welcome after a couple of busy days exploring. Lots of chilling, lots of swimming, spot of lunch from Luna’s.

In the evening we were picked up and taken over to Mqabba for their annual festa. After a slightly surreal journey - minibus then open-top bus with eccentric tour guide - we arrived at the beautifully decorated town. All the locals were out in their best, the brass band were playing, the atmosphere was amazing. We found a little bar down a side street with a spare table so stopped for a couple of Cisks and a pizza (which Matt had to pick the chicken off for me). We could hear the fireworks for about an hour before we headed in that direction and still managed to see a lot of them. They’d constructed a lot of very elaborate Catherine wheels, so we found a good spot on a wall to sit and watch them. All very impressive, each one worked differently and it was impossible to work out what they’d do before they were lit.

Very late night by the time we got back to Mellieha, but such a fun time.
