We headed out reasonably early and caught the bus to Valetta for the day. The bus was quite long but we had lots of nice views on the way.

The city is beautiful, I can see why they say it’s essentially a huge open air museum. Once you’re inside the (very impressive) city walls pretty much everything is stunning. As yesterday in Gozo, we enjoyed straying away from the main streets and enjoying the quieter back streets. We’d heard that a visit to St John’s Cathedral was worth the money, and it definitely was. It was pretty busy but bearable, and Matt was “humbled” by the huge Caravaggio.

Afterwards we had a quick drink in the square opposite, then had another wander - first out to see the view of the Grand Harbour, then to the Upper and Lower Barrakka Gardens. Headed back into the city for some late lunch, the spot we picked outside the National Library was a good choice, both our food was delicious. I had an ice cream as well before we made our way back to Mellieha - the bus was considerably less enjoyable this time, absolutely packed and with air con struggling so much that by the time we got back it was pouring water over the seats at the front.

We had a little while to chill on the balcony before getting ready for dinner and going for some drinks on the roof. We’d booked a fancy restaurant but realised 10 minutes before leaving to walk there that we’d accidentally booked it for yesterday. It was quite late so settled for the Italian place below the hotel, bit of a shame but a lovely evening anyway.

Loads in extras as per.
