Courtyard Garden

We took a wander round some “gardens of the lower New Town” this afternoon - part of a trail of small gardens open for Scotland’s Gardens Scheme. It’s always interesting to get a bit of a nosey into places usually hidden behind walls and at the back of houses, although, having said that, out of the 7 gardens we visited (we missed out one) 5 were visible from the street and, indeed, I know most of them from my meanderings around the area.

The rain came on while we were visiting the garden in the blip - one usually hidden from public view - but it did not deter all the folk trudging around the trail, nor did it dampen the enthusiasm of the garden owners who all had interesting tales for their visitors and were obviously all very proud of their beautiful sanctuaries.

Once back home, I took a look out at my own small garden and thought, with a bit of a tidy up here, some hacking back there and a fair bit of reorganisation, it’s not really too bad … but I won’t be opening up to visitors any time soon!
