Living my dream

By Mima

Brief bee

The sun came out this afternoon for an hour or two and this bee was immediately onto the lavender flowers, going from one to the next on the hunt for apparently scant pickings. It stayed on each one no longer than a couple of seconds. There are very few bees and butterflies around the place now.

As Bean and I walked along the road this afternoon past an ‘encampment’ of tents and trucks on the edge of the village, the two resident bull mastiffs and the german shepherd dog raced towards the fence…and for the first time one of the mastiffs pushed right through and went for Bean. They have rushed the fence before and scared the life out of me, but never have they got through.

Bean was frightened but ok, only because I managed to intervene quickly and assertively. It turned out the mastiff wasn’t going to mess with Mima with her grumpy and growly face on. I was mighty! It would have been a different story had I not been there.

I have lodged a complaint with the Animal Welfare people at the Council. Dogs have to be contained and controlled, especially aggressive ones. These ones’ humans specialise in screaming and swearing at the dogs, but there’s precious little control. Enough is enough.

Poor Beanbag couldn’t get home quickly enough. Shaken but not injured, thankfully. My heart was beating a little faster than usual too…
