Unexpected Pelican

After yesterday afternoons ambiguously successful sighting of the bluethroat, we thought we'd go back in the morning sunshine and try for a better shot.

Ah, but the bright skies bring everyone out, and despite the line of photographers and twitchers stood by the sea wall hide, other visitors had no qualms in walking past them and into the reed beds where the bluethroat obviously wasn't. British style grumbling could be heard...

However, on the way back and after a hundred shots that were nearly swallows in flight we were overflown by this pink backed pelican (pelicanus refuescens)! Not your normal native to the UK; it's enjoying life at the WWT and does tricks for food. And wasn't shy about getting close!

Having the Hubble and the 1.4x telephoto on gave me some framing problems! I'm also noticing how soft the combination is and wondering if there's anything I can do or if I'm simply too picky.

(Using up extras now. No doubt some of these will be harvested later in the year.)
