Eating is Serious Business

Our starter today was grilled limpets (lapas) in a buttery garlic sauce with maybe some hot pepper - they were delicious, especially with the good bread and sparkling wine.

One thing that is very different when we're on holiday with Portuguese friends is how seriously they take their eating, and how long it all takes...but in a lot of ways, I do love it, and it's a great chance for good conversation.

Even ice-cream (look at the faces in extra). Which I researched and discovered that the best was a small place in a small village - São Mateus Gelados. After all, it's not a holiday without ice-cream, is it?

I´ll add gratefuls in a minute; being called to eat - Cecílio has made açorda de tomate (a sort of bread and tomato stew with potatoes, poached eggs and cod)...

OK, Gratefuls:
- walking around on Monte Brasil, which is basically a collapsed volcano with four peaks surrounding the crater, which juts out into the ocean from the main city of Angra do Heroísmo (view of it from there in second extra), and the cats that followed us as we walked (cared for by volunteers)
- walking round the stunning gardens in the centre of the city
- how great these traveling companions are: easy, fun, interesting
