Pictorial blethers

Urban meandering

I realised today one of the big differences between my normal life and my current temporary one is that we don’t allow ourselves a lapse into unconsciousness after lunch, with the result that by evening we’re whacked. (The sad corollary is that this was not always the case …)

We spent the middle part of today with our half-French family as they prepared to go off on holiday, fitting in a brief foray to Leith Market to buy bread and smoked butter. We lunched on fridge-emptying deliciousness, chatted to the girls individually on such topics as Anna’s ability to make the perfect French-style omelette (she’s 11) and alternative methods of packing Catriona’s suitcase with a hundred T-shirts. Then we made our farewells (I hate that but) and left them to it.

Meanwhile we came back to the other family’s house - and promptly went out for yet another old railway cycle path walk. That’s where I took the above photo, under a railway bridge somewhere to the north of here. I did some Italian and we had a lightish supper which involved our helpfully finishing off a nice bottle of red which had been opened for us on Thursday evening. Wouldn’t like to waste it after all.

And finally… bed. At 11pm.
