No 10, Zambezi on the BWLR

Bob and I had a fine day out at the Bredgar and Wormshill Light Railway in North Kent. https://bwlr.co.uk/ This privately owned line has open days once a month where an intensive train service is operated usually with other attractions.

Today’s other even was a classic car display with vehicles ranging in age from 1912 to 2009. Bob appeared to either have owned, borrowed, ridden in almost every car there; or knew somebody who had. There was great exclamations as we approached each exhibit!

We had a couple of rides on the trains. All the engines were immaculate and were all the coaching stock. A full signalling system was in use and loads of volunteers on hand to ensure safe running.

Todays blip is of Zambezi, a loco built in 1912 for sugar plantations. It used to run on sugarcane, but also uses coal or wood to raise steam. Here, Zambezi was waiting to enter the shed as it had just failed owing to a leak in the steam pipe.

We looked around the shed, admiring the quality and beauty of the engineering on display, the engines were a real treat for the eye.

Bob went back to collect his wife then came over to us for a meal afterwards. A most enjoyable evening, where the piece de la resistance was the cherry ice cream. I’ll try to remember to blip it next week.

After a long journey from San Diego via Dallas and Dublin our son Chris eventually arrived in Manchester for 10 days of meetings snd presentations with his work. Unfortunately, not all his luggage arrived with him.

We will see him next weekend as he’s coming down to Kent before flying off to Boston a week on Monday. No grandson unfortunately, May be one day not too soon!
