An American Dream........

One evening, mom was cooking a chicken for dinner.    Hubby had been given  $1.25 to get milk for super.
The chicken and biscuits were ready, everyone waited for dad to come home.   After over an hour,   the family ate..  It was reheated and they drank water.
Later on Hubby came home without milk.  He had bought a 6 pack of beer and was fairly drunk.   He was in a snit because we had eaten super.  The child started to cry as he yelled and punched the wall, kicked the door.  Then he turned and hit the child so hard, she was lifted up and hit a chair.   She had a black and blue bruise over her kidney area.

M om pack her clothes and the childs, as well as some toys.   She went out of state and went home to where she grew up.    The parents let them in until we could find an apartment and get that job.    It was made very clear that she had to support herself and the child.    ABSOLUTELY, NO FREE RIDES  TO BE HAD THERE!!!!!!!!!!

After a lot of looking, job interviews, and  trying to explain why the family wasn't living together,  some sort of normal began to happen.   Time was spent at state parks and swimming, picnics, and making new friends.  The world had shattered, but the family was  picking up the pieces.  A few months later an apartment was found, used furniture was bought   Then a job was offered, a
the salary was enough to pay the rent, buy food, pay off the used furniture.    A new future was opening up.  Sadly a divorced was completed and there seemed to be a  new future opening up.
Some how things were working out, inspite of all the sleepless nights, hunger, fights, and sleepless nights, things were beginning to work out.
With a  new job, part of every paycheck went into the bank for savings.  It was for the future.    A downpayment on a hous(e maybe) savings for a future, for medicens when one of them got sick......     There wasn't loads of money.  Neither got what they wanted.  But both were safe and secure.

Now, the child is grown, married and has a college education.   Mom is retired, living on Social Security, modestly,

The whole point of this story is that anyone can make a future for themselves : if they are willing to work hard, make good choices, and save their money for the future.     Circumstances can look bleak and hopeless.
The person who keeps faith with  their dream, be willing to work hard and respect others, it can and will come true.
No one gets a free ride.   But in America, you can dig yourself out of a sewage cesspool and build a life for you and yours.     No one is promised an easy, fun life.  Reality is, it just doesn't work that way.
To me, the American Dream is alive and well.

This is a true story of a girl I knew in Connecticut.  She is happy, retired, with grandchildren.  She clawed herself up to a good life.  Thats why I love my country.  The American dream is still alive, with thousands of people immigrating to this country.      They aren't migrating out of America.......

If you can dream it......
       You can make it happen.....
