Irish style. A visit to the Honan Chapel* at University College Cork today, recommended by an Irish friend. Finished in 1916, it has the most beautiful mosaic floor, somewhat marred by furniture added in the 1980s and placed in such a way as to obscure parts of the design. I particularly liked the river of fish flowing down the aisle, beautifully detailed. Most of my photos need tweaking because the pink light threw the white balance completely off kilter; I’ll do that later. But there’s a detail in extras.

We didn’t see as much of Cork as we might have this morning as S was in a zombie-like state. The Metropole is a much fancier hotel than we normally stay in, and the breakfast, while expensive, was fabulous. S had a full Irish, and I had delicious and perfectly poached eggs Benedict.

We took a taxi to UCC, as S wasn’t up to walking, and figured out a bus back. After a bit of wandering and a coffee, S retreated to the hotel, and I walked briskly to Waterstones and bought the required OS maps plus my book group’s next book.

Then a bus to Bantry, where it is gloriously sunny again. In Barry’s B&B we have a lovely view of the sun-drenched harbour. We decided to dine very early in order to get a good night’s sleep and found a pub where I had a delicious dish of pasta with goat’s cheese, tomatoes, and spinach, and S had seafood chowder. Then a bit of organising for tomorrow’s walk … wish us luck!

Edit: added an extra of our harbour view!
