Polesden Lacey

Nice day out today at Polesden Lacey.

My friend and I started out with a short tour of the house. It was interesting to hear a bit about Margaret Greville, a society hostess, who remodelled the house to her  elaborate tastes including the development of nine bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, which must have been something at the beginning of the last century. Mrs Greville was famous for her parties for the rich and famous and for lending Polesden to George VI and the Queen mother for their honeymoon, before they became King and Queen. All very Downton Abbey.   It was pleasantly warm and after the tour we wandered around the grounds. The cafe provided a light lunch as well as an afternoon cup of tea.
