If you can't beat them...

Foxglove ( Digitalis purpurea )

The main event of the day was saying goodbye to "The Mate's" family as they head back towards Lewis after their final visit down to complete formalities etc stemming from "The Mate's" death.

The Foxglove is a self seed into one of the patio pots.  Being biennial we could have weeded it out, but we like the flowers they make a good splash of colour and last well.  Foxgloves are very poisonous to humans and animals, which makes the fact they are used in medicine,  particularly heart conditions a little unusual.

The scientific name was given by Leonard Fuchs ( the same man Fuchsia was named after) as long ago as 1542.  The genus name is from the Latin for finger.
