“Messing about on the river”

Monday
In the morning the three of us rented a canoe and went canoeing on the Little Miami River. Jen tried to persuade Jason to come, since he had tested negative by now, but he declined. We still to work out the logistics of using our own kayaks on the river, as regards transport. It used to be the case that the canoe outfitters would be prepared to take you back on their bus, for a relatively small amount, then they stopped it during Covid, and now they will do it again, but it’s almost the cost of renting their canoes/kayaks. So for the money point of view we just rented one canoe. It was nice being back on the river, and to say it was a holiday weekend, it wasn’t as busy as we thought it would be. We took a picnic with it and pulled up on a rocky beach to eat it.
In the evening Jen and Jason went out to a cookout with Marcus, one of Jason’s friends from university, and his partner. They hadn’t seen them for years. Roger and I had our own cook-out at home.
With Jason spending more time downstairs now he is testing negative, their cat has also been a bit more adventurous, and seemed to be more relaxed today, spending time while we were having breakfast sitting on the chair in the corner of the breakfast room, watching the birds and squirrels. Poor Wall-E, little does he know tomorrow it’s back into the car, to drive the last leg to Atlanta!
